Nooooo....

Another precious artifact of my youth, tampered with:

SCI FI has signed director Michael Rymer (Queen of the Damned) and actors Jamie Bamber (HBO's Band of Brothers) and Katee Sackhoff (Halloween: Resurrection) for the new four-hour original miniseries Battlestar Galactica. Production begins in Vancouver in March. Battlestar Galactica will air exclusively on SCI FI in late 2003.

Without the shoulder pads, poufy "dry look" hair, and computer terminals consisting of black screens with green character display it won't be anything like the original.

Ack! A female Starbuck!! It just won't be right without Dirk Benedict's goofy smirk.

Oh felgercarb! I've been following this for a while, and what they're doing to the show looks absolutely criminal. I'd prefer a revival with the original cast, but better no revival than this fracking crap.

I'm withholding judgement until I see it.

Well, I probably should, too, but I'd be VERY surprised if it was even halfway-decent.

A female Starbuck? What, do they have superadvanced Sexchange Technology now?

Posted by: Dean Esmay at March 3, 2003 at 08:50 AM

Hey, the show is providing a good friend of mine with gainful employment, so I'm not going to dump on it...

NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! That's perversion, turning Starbuck into a female!!! It's all about tweaking GUYS nerve endings now isnt it??!!! Whatever happened to getting good looking guys...and no, I don't count all the pretty modelactorwannabes as good looking...They all look and sound alike!!!

Who cares whether Starbuck is male or female, as long as the coffee's decent? And fully caffeinated, of course.

Dang, I wanted to be the first with a coffee reference.

Andrea: "Without the shoulder pads, poufy "dry look" hair, and computer terminals consisting of black screens with green character display..."

You mean like this?

I have visions of a 'Farscape'-ey kind of farrago, replete with standard-issue CGI and actors no one's ever heard of. Who's to play Adama? Suggest Peter Falk, for laughs.

I liked the original way back in 1977, but it was a bit hokey. I'd like to see what SciFi does with it. From what I've seen of their other efforts, it can be assumed they'll do a halfway decent job of it.

I'll be curious to see what the Cylons will look like - will they resurrect the old ones, create variation of the old ones, or come up with something entirely new?

[ROTFLMAO at the thought of Peter Falk as Adama]

Steven, that would probably make all of even the worst horrified-fanboy extrapolations about what else they might do to the series still worth it.
