Overcompensating again

Say what?Winner of the Flagellant's Whip and Hairshirt Award goes to the writer of this blockheaded critique of Lord of the Rings and its author, and even the author's friends. Apparently the book is full of "occult imagery," Tolkien is to be faulted for not attempting to write a "Christian allegory," the dreaded Satanic game Dungeons and Dragons was all his fault, and C.S. Lewis wasn't Christian enough to suit the writer of this web page. LOTR gets props, though, for not being "as overtly and sympathetically occultic as the Harry Potter series." Silver lining and all that.

(Note: this site has more goodies, such as a page on the "Homosexual Agenda." Hint: it's got nothing to do with passing laws forbidding people to wear white belts and shoes before Memorial Day. And don't miss the Harry Potter problem! Yeah, I can't wait for the fifth book to get here either -- oh, that's not what you meant? Never mind...)

I would show you my copy of the homosexual agenda, but it's not for outsiders. If the high council found out, they would burn my membership card and take away my decoder ring.

Frodo stares, take a shot.

Another amusing "Christian" lunatic can be found at Capalert. This one does movie "reviews". He slagged FOTR pretty hard, but seems to have moderated his views a bit for TTT.

Here is a link to the TRUE Gay Agenda

Hmmm... this part is interesting: "2:30 PM : Get forty winks of beauty rest to prevent facial wrinkles from stress of world conquest." Bush is supposed to be an early-to-bed kind of guy, and we all know he wants to conquer the world -- Susan Sontag or somebody said so! Wait a minute.... Bush is part of the Gay Agenda! Now it can be told!

Surprising, the Vatican examined the Harry Potter books and found that "they aren't bad." They even conclude the books are Christian(ish) since the author is Christian and writes lessons of good vs. evil. (Of course, they did declare that yoga is evil.)

I really despise people like this. If those people are held up as "Christians," then what does that say for the rest of us who are normal?

I have a cousin who used to be a missionary in Africa, and now takes it upon herself to make sure everyone knows Jesus. She thinks yoga is evil. In regard to the Harry Potter books, when I asked her what she thought of them, she said "They're of Satan."

The funny part? She's never even read them.

Oh vomit. I know it's not nice, but I simply can't help wishing for people who say things this stupid to be beaten.

Yeah, it gets pretty tiring when a fellow "Christian" spews idiocy like that. So, here's the obligatory "non-fundie Christians don't think that way at all" message. Because we don't.

Fundies are a very small fringe group of nuts.

The rest of us Chrisitans think Harry Potter, LOTR, and C. S. Lewis all rock. They are great contributions to humankind, and will be on the shelves in heaven.

No, it's Yoda that's evil, not yoga.

I think there's a number of key phrases in that review that you should stop should you ever run up against them in the future. "...before I was saved", notably, is a convenient device to disavow guilt for having participated in sinful activities (such as reading LOTR) without actually having to disqualify oneself as an authority. Oh, and the guilt by association trick, such as the words to the effect that rock and rollers really dig LOTR, so it must also be evil.
