It's a planetoid!

Ladies and gentlemen, I think I have found it -- the Biggest Ego on the Internet. He is one of Tim Blair's blog-flies, a fellow (well -- a being, anyway) who calls himself "Mork." The comments that won him his title can be found in this post. Scroll, my children, and you shall come upon these pronouncements:

As for "it's only Tim's opinion". No shit. And I've given mine. And mine's more rational, principled and consistent than Tim's. So there you go.

Man, the most disturbing thing about political bulletin boards and comment pages like this is that you realize how few people are able/inclined to think for themselves, rather than parroting whatever they hear from their current gurus.

and

Mork is more rational and principled than Tim because he manages to stick to the principles he requires of others.

Respect, people. "Mork" must have a gonads of steel to type that with a straight face.

There's no way to tell if Morks face was straight when he posted that or not. :)

I dunno. The guy's awfully pissy for someone who is just joking.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 19, 2003 at 02:36 AM

While I can hardly throw stones regarding an odd name, I have to wonder if he's got a costume to go with it.

I wouldn't say he's got nads'o'steel,..... brillo maybe.....but not steel.

I dunno. Judging from his name and his pissy attitude, I'd think he must have nano-nads.

Naw... Mindy is ghost writing all the stuff...

Ah, Andrea, it's painfully obvious what you're aspiring to be, but you just don't have the wit or style . . . if you want to insult a grown-up, you need a lot more creativity and psychological insight than you've displayed thus far.

Using this sort of elementary-school repartee against someone who is (a) more intelligent and (b) more self-confident than you is only going to amuse, not insult.

But on the subject of cajones, since you brought it up, I must bow before yours. Not everyone has the guts to direct their readers (both of them?) to a page on which they were made to look like a fool. Or perhaps you didn't notice.

Posted by: Mork at June 19, 2003 at 10:52 PM

Well now, aren't stuck on yourself are you mork? Above it all, or do you just lack the wit to respond in kind?

Perhaps you should consider a less dry sense of humor, smacking yourself in the head with a hammer's good. It always makes me laugh.

Posted by: puggs at June 19, 2003 at 11:10 PM

Impressed with myself? Well . . . only by comparison.

As for my sense of humor, the only person I am trying to amuse is myself (at which task I'm exceeding all expectations). But in any case, as my exchanges with Andrea demonstrate, even a dry sense of humor beats none at all.

Posted by: Mork at June 19, 2003 at 11:23 PM

Mr. Mork has not learned that merely saying something is so does not necessarily mean it partakes of reality. But then I'm not the one who is afflicted by delusions of grandeur.

By the way, "Mork," it's spelled cojones.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 19, 2003 at 11:29 PM

The majority of opinion in the blogsphere would seem to contradict your opinion regarding Miss Harris's sense of humour. As far as amusing yourself goes, don't let me interrupt any personal habits. But your humor has a decidedly exhibitionist bent if it amuses you to go where you don't agree and find nothing funny.

I hope you don't use public restrooms with that kind of a sense of humor. Others don't nesscessarily share your pleasure.

Posted by: puggs at June 19, 2003 at 11:39 PM

Ms. Harris has failed to learn that pointing out that my saying something is no guarantee of its truth is (a) trite and (b) does not amount to a substantive rebuttal of anything I say.

As for which of us is afflicted by delusions of grandeur . . . well, I'm not the one running the weblog, my dear.

But thanks for the spelling tip. That makes one (1) thing I've learned from you.

Posted by: Mork at June 19, 2003 at 11:45 PM

Puggs, you evidently have much to teach your hostess (even if the coherence of your post seemed to trail off towards the end, and you made a spelling error, which apparently is verboten on this site).

But please do direct me to the basis of your statement that "the majority of opinion in the blogsphere would seem to contradict your opinion regarding Miss Harris's sense of humour".

Perhaps there are subtleties in Ms. Harris work that presently escape me but that a third party perspective might reveal.

Posted by: Mork at June 19, 2003 at 11:53 PM

(Grin), correct me if you like, my skin's as thick as rhino hide. Now I'm the one being amused.

It's not lack of coherence, it's humor, perhaps less adroit than your tastes, but...taste being subjective and all. I humbly suggest that possibly you might consider this, the hallmark of good humor is the ability to laugh at yourself sometimes. Perhaps I missed it, but I haven't seen any indication of that with you. You come across as stiff, loosen up. Also your referrence to requiring the same standards of yourself as you do others..........How is it not insufferable that you get to set the standards? I set my own, as does everyone else, perhaps I don't share your opinion of what is and is not the required standard. Perhaps your standard is badly flawed, it would be difficult for you to judge since as you say, you only seek to amuse yourself. Rather narcissistic isn't it?

Posted by: puggs at June 20, 2003 at 12:20 AM

Puggs - I thought the first sentence of my previous entry communicated my enjoyment of your post, which, given that it was having a go at me, seems to suggest at least some capacity for laughing at myself. Insult me in an even more witty fashion, and I'll laugh that much harder.

But you invert my proposition about standards. I was not saying "I have standards for myself, therefore I can impose them on other people". I was saying "to the extent that criticize other people if they fail to meet certain standards, I try as hard as possible to meet those standards myself".

Which is just a roundabout way of saying "I try not to be a hypocrite".

I see Mork is a true narcissist -- he can't recognize his own reflection, even when others point it out to him. Oh well, at least we tried.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 20, 2003 at 12:48 AM

Yawn.

Posted by: Mork at June 20, 2003 at 01:10 AM

Ah, fair enough. Now your last post has eased the tension, it had feeling in it. Truthfully I was a bit unsure what the direction was you were coming from. So I probed the field, checked your perimeter, felt for weakness's. You defend yourself with determination, I respect that. I still don't agree, but at least you have the stones not to back down.

I suppose I could continue with the jousting, but there's little point to it now, both our views have been aired.

Posted by: puggs at June 20, 2003 at 01:15 AM

Puggs - agreed . . . it's been fun!

Posted by: Mork at June 20, 2003 at 01:18 AM

Good save!

Lame attempted save.

Whatever you say.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 20, 2003 at 03:18 AM

Now we're getting somewhere!
