The original internet hippie

Oh, this is funny -- and cruel, which is why it is funny: Simple Guide to the A-List Bloggers. Sample:

“In the beginning was the Blog, and the Blog was with Dave, and the Blog was God. The same was in the beginning with Dave. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness (everyone but Dave) comprehended it not.”

(Via Richard Bennett via Robert Scoble.)

Update: someday someone will get to the Z-bloggers such as myself. By then people will be blogging on plasma filaments with their brainwaves, but hey...

Updated update: now how would I know why Adam Curry is considered an A-list blogger? Methinks I smell a whiff of self-parody there...

(By the way, who the hell is Andrew Orlowski? He must be the author of this piece.)

Orlowsky is the guy at the The Register who's always blasting tech bloggers' utopian fantasies.

sigh I am SO out of the loop. I've never even heard of some of those guys.

What comes below "Z-list"?

I feel a certain measure of pride in realizing that I don't read anyone on that list. Yay, me.

But -- but -- I thought everyone read Adam Curry!

Does anyone read this "A" list besides the members of the list? Only names I recognized were Dave Barry (I used to read newspapers...so sue me, I'm 50) and Anil (he used to harrass Charles at LGF and his debate style led me to think of him as "Anal"). Jodging from the linked post, I don't feel I'm missing anything.

It sort of pisses me off that he doesn't provide links so I can check out the "A list" blogs I've never heard of before.

I don't care whose list I'm on, so long as I enjoy keeping up my site. And really, if you think about it any other way, well, that way lies madness.

These so-called "A-List Blogger" are all techno-utopians who're always carrying on about how blogs (or XML, or SOAP, or PHP, or Java, or something) will feed the hungry, light the darkness, and make Bambi and Elmer Fudd go disco dancing with each other. They're read by a lot of lonely, pimply-faced geeks, but not by too many other people.

I tend to read them because I've always thought mental illness was kind of funny, but I'm a sick man.

I recognize about two thirds of the names, but I've only read three of them more than once, and one of those three has been through links because he jumped into an issue and made some sweeping generalizations that others found offensive.

Andrew Sullivan and Instapundit are the two a-list bloggers on my daily read list. None of the others even catch my notice. Of course, if I was a vaguely lefty techno-utopian I might have more in common with these people...

BTW, I wonder why Rebecca Blood, Jason Kottke, Meg Hourihan, and Evan Williams were left off the list. I always thought they were some sort of blog royalty. (grin)
