Sort of watching Fright Night Part 2 on Scifi while tooling around here. I just had this revelation: vampire movies are the softcore porn of the horror movie genre. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Posted by Andrea Harris at May 24, 2003 01:43 AMWell the whole vampire genre is one big sexual image. Hrm, a guy with a fang(s) piercing an innocent nubile female... A how are vampires always portrayed amoungst themselves? Debauched and libertine...as well engaging in acts of S&M, bi-sexuality and orgies (either actual or of blood-letting). Vampire films are indeed "guilt-free" soft porn.
Posted by: Andrew Ian Castel-Dodge at May 24, 2003 at 02:17 PMWell, FN2 was more of a "gal with fangs piercing an innocent (kinda) nubile (well, not really --William Ragsdale was looking kinda long-in-the-tooth to be playing a college student, unless he was playing one like me) guy." But still -- yep, on all counts.
Posted by: Andrea Harris at May 24, 2003 at 04:43 PMYou're absolutely right.
Brilliant analogy. I may even steal it.
Indeed, it's the second-best line I've heard in the blogosphere this month. (The best was "blowing the biscuit wheels off the gravy train" over at Arguing With Signposts.)
