A hopeful sign

This little town in Iraq doesn't seem too unhappy with the US-led invasion:

A few men and boys ventured out, putting makeshift white flags on their pickup trucks or waving white T-shirts out truck windows.

"Americans very good," Ali Khemy said. "Iraq wants to be free."

Some chanted, "Ameriki! Ameriki!"

(Via Silent Running -- see the entries for March 22 -- yes, it's already tomorrow in Australia/New Zealand.)

One ominous sign was that an Iraqi man dragged a woman away from the American troops she was greeting and made a "throat-sliiting" motion with his hand across his neck, warning her. Now what was the warning exactly, that our troops might cut her throat, or that her family would do so, or that Saddam loyalists would do so?
