Nerves like nylon

Yikes. The power just went out just a few minutes ago. In the whole neighborhood. (While I was typing a blog post, grr...) Then I heard sirens and things.

The power's back on now (or I wouldn't be posting this) but that was scary. I wonder what happened, if anything other than an overloaded system.

Our power goes out so often that I forget, until I talk to friends in other parts of the country, that it can be pretty uncommon in some places and scary when it happens. Especially these days!

You know what makes my heart lurch? If I'm listening to a radio station in San Francisco and they go off the air. I have this momentary twitch that they were hit by a big earthquake and it's heading my way :) I still have Loma Prieta jitters!

Power outages were fairly common when I lived in Miami, and up until last year fairly common up here around Orlando, but there hadn't been one in a while. It was just the timing...

Is your power company Florida Flash and Flicker? I heard that expression a few years ago in Sarasota.
