The Opposite of Thought

Of course the anti-war protesters in Tallahassee are particularly stupid. My favorite sign: "Who needs oil? I ride the bus!" And diablogger's perfect comeback: "Apparently the busses (sic) in Tallahassee run on magic pixie dust." Well, so that's why the budget in this state is always in such trouble. Do you have any idea what the price of pixie dust is on the open market?

I haven't done a search for reports of protest rallies in Central Florida. I'm afraid to find out how dumb they were.

I'm in Tallahassee, and Diablogger's pictures could be taken nearly any afternoon at 4pm in front of the capitol building. (Not that the protests average any more than a dozen people per day, mind you.) They're all quite boring people to talk to and be in class with at Florida State, and they organize via a left-wing mail list that I was accidentally subscribed to ages ago (I stay on because I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess, and it provides for interesting blog entries.) If you wanted to catch up on what the anti-war protestors are doing in Central Florida, I'd suggest looking at university websites for left-wing student groups.

I'm betting those "magic buses" run on hemp, myself.

And this was on Sunday, too. Who exactly do they think is going to hear them? Session doesn't start until March 4th, so the Capitol was empty. Not that I think most of who work there would have noticed any difference from the permanent protest even if it had been on a weekday.

Hey, don't do or say anything to discourage anyone to do anything even marginally interesting in Tallahassee! This place is dullsville enough, usually. I saw Jeb Bush sitting at Andrew's last Friday and people weren't even looking at him. Isn't he as much of a celebrity as we've got locally? I need to get out!

And it's such a far drive even to other parts of Florida. Sounds wonderful, actually... I'm in cabin-in-the-woods mode, never mind me.

Robert,

I couldn't agree more. Woohoo, I saw the Governor at Andrew's as well, and we were more interested in seeing who he was eating with (more grist for the Lt. Governor rumor mill). Fortunately, my work is interesting, or I don't know what I'd do. Tallahassee is so nowhere. Whenever I pass the plaque in the Capitol dedicated to the failed effort in the 1970's to move the capital city to Orlando, I get overcome with a mix of sorrow, frustration and anger.

Putting the capital here in the 1820's, when it was equidistant between Pensacola and St. Augustine and there basically weren't any people between here and Key West, made sense. It REALLY doesn't anymore, but I'm sure I'll be out of here way before that ever changes.
