If I had a rocket launcher

They've positioned missile launchers around D.C. you know, just in case. Eeee.

Update: troops and tanks around Heathrow. Blair is taking no chances. (Via Andrew.)

Interesting. If I were to emplace air defenses that mattered around the D.C. area, I think one of the last things I'd consider would be what amounts to a truck-launched Stinger, which is what the Avenger system is. I think I'd probably go to PAC-2 if the anticipated threat is aircraft, or PAC-3 for aircraft and missiles.

Scary times indeed. Strange thing is, though, not many people in the Northern-Virginia part of the D.C. area are walking on eggshells. (Can't speak for the rest of the region though.)

I'm deathly afraid that something is going to happen very soon, but curiously, I don't have a worry in the world that it'll happen to me. I don't work near anything crucial, radiation from a dirty bomb washes off once you survive the initial explosion, and chemical weapons are pretty ineffective if you're near water or open air.

Live your lives, folks. Pray that nothing happens, but don't be afraid.

London seems to be high alert as well. Have you seen the pictures of Heathrow?

Did you know you can sing the words "they've positioned missile launchers 'round D.C." to the tune of 'She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain (When She Comes)'? I just thought you should be aware of this.

Re Dave: Yeah, here in D.C. Land things don't seem to be that big a deal, although the Washington Post's fearmongering kicked up a short discussion of this after I blogged this same bit of news yesterday afternoon...
