It's about the oil

Beaker has a public service announcement from the VRWC ("Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy") for the anti-SUV brigade. I don't think he dumbed it down enough.

(Via John Cole.)

Update: and Tim Blair helps us to understand how the anti-SUV ad campaign helped contribute to the terrorists' funds.

I don't think I could have dumbed it down enough for the liberals to understand it.

I'm an anti-SUV proponent, and I agree this campaign is lousy and will discredit the legitimate grievances we have with these vehicles.

I've blogged about the distinction between the anti-SUV campaign, and Huffington's bid to co-opt it for the anti-petrol/-capitalism campaign. Shades of the Spanish Civil War, here...

Thanks to the Huffy one, I am seriously considering the biggest Ford Expedition I can afford. Just kidding. I really want a Miata. It's nice to want...

Bad news, Beaker: There isn't enough oil in the ANWR to really bother with, considering the envirnomental damage done by exploration and pumping- THAT'S the issue. The United States uses 20 million barrels of oil each and every day. That's 600 million barrels of oil a month. Now you tell me: How much oil is in the ANWR? (Hint: Use the P50 estimates.) See? Not worth it- at the rate we use it.

Every little bit helps.

Well, yeah . . . Sort of. Two technical problems we face with ANWR are the "ramp up" time and the energy cost. If we were to start right now to go for that oil, it would still take about ten years before we actually saw any of that oil refined as gasoline down here in the lower 48. So will we start to see it by 2013? Maybe. That depends on the "energy price" of the oil up there. Most conventional (read: easy-to-get-to-and-pump-out) oil has a one to four energy price. That is, it takes one barrel of oil to pump out, transport and refine four barrels of the stuff. The oil companies can still make a profit at one to four. If the oil is harder to get to, tougher to transport out or takes more to refine, that energy price drops. When the energy price reaches one to one, the pumps get turned off and everyone WALKS home. That is, if it takes one barrel of oil to pump, transport and refine one barrel of oil, there's no sane reason to do so- no matter what the retail price of gasoline.

My advice: Buy that Miata now. Carpe' convertible. You will not be disappointed.

Miatas are great cars for girls.
