It slices! It dices!

We wants it, we wants it, we wants it! The heck with those girly elf-jewels.

Does anyone else think it somewhat odd that the broken version of Narsil costs more than the unbroken version?

Posted by: Robin Goodfellow at January 6, 2003 at 02:41 AM

Maybe that one is a special item.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 6, 2003 at 02:57 AM

Maybe they had to find a repro Sauron to stand on it in repro steel boots. Oh yeah, and the repro Sting glows blue when orcs are about - the same way my library card emits a low hum when 7-headed aliens from Jupiter are talking about me behind my back. If you get my meaning.

A word to the wise: If you're going to buy one, buy Sting. It's the only one that might not be completely point-heavy and drag on the ground behind you. Most long swords lack sufficient weight in the pommel to make them well-balanced, and tend to be a real effort to weild effectively. (Although just dropping the thing on someone's foot should do the trick.) Sting, based on a Celtic short sword, looks to be the best buy of the lot, assuming you want a real, functional weapon- Something to answer the door with when the J.W's come calling.

I'd just hang them up on my wall. Very nice collection.

Oh, come on- Those long swords are perfect for weeding the yard without bending over- You've got to USE them! I bought a "Chinese Peasant's Sword" from Bud K. a while back. It looks like a thick, two-handed meat cleaver. I use it to cut up fallen limbs around the yard. (We have a lot of trees.) It does a great job AND keeps the neighbors on their toes!

Samurai Gardener!

Hmmm..."fallen limbs"? I hope those are tree limbs you're talking about.

Ok, so I looked out my back window and there was The Black Knight, hopping mad. What was I to do? I also keep a katana in the cane stand, for things that go bump in the knight, er, night.

But I wants the sharp pointy objects, and the girly elf jewels!

(I'm greedy)(though I did get a girly elf jewel for Xmas)

I've been lusting after Narsil for a long time now. Failing that, I want Arwens Elf-Katana. That thing is just cool.

Posted by: Sean Kirby at January 6, 2003 at 03:48 PM

Which sword caught your eye Andrea?

Me? I will take Glamdring!

Narsil is nice too but it's sold out already!

Posted by: Scott Wickstein at January 6, 2003 at 07:14 PM

Sting, probably. Glamdring is kind of too large for me. I'm kind of hobbit-shaped. Though the sword of the Witch-King is pretty cool, for my Gothier moods...

What I don't want: character figurines. That's just creepy... Except maybe one of Aragorn, to stick pins in. (Just kidding!)

How about the lovley Orc head mug they were selling a while back? I wanted a whole set! [g]

Urrgghhh...

One of my former students is apprenticing here at dragonsbreath forge and might be able to make you something. Tell him Prof. Drout referred you. His name is Jamie.

Also, if you want to be really nerdy about swords and dragons (and a sword stronger than a katana) I was a "dragon consultant" (think I can put that on my vita?) on his project.

Even Stephen den Beste thought this was really nerdy.

I have no idea why my links didn't work in the previous post. Here they are raw:

I have html turned off! Sorry! (I will get to work on the site -- I have been too lazy running around going to the wrong classes and stuff...) Anyway, thanks for the offer! I will definitely check it out. I also want to go to the Hoggestowne Medieval Festival they have in Gainesville every February or March, to see if those people who make those little harps will be there. Me wants one.

Ooooh! Dragons!

Posted by: Ith at January 7, 2003 at 12:46 AM

Shhhhhh! I'm hunting dwagons!

If you like such things, you might consider saving your pennies (a lot of them) and buying a real sword. I drool on the Wilkinson M1913 British Cavalry Officer's sword. Very very spendy, but it's a real weapon, and one of the finest ever made.
