DIVERSITY CRUSHED

Yet more cultural intolerance in Australia:

Four brothers convicted of gang raping two Sydney teenagers have been jailed for a total of 70 years between them.

The rapes occurred at their family home in Ashfield, in Sydney's inner west, on July 28, 2002. The men threatened two girls with knives and bullets during the attack, and one of the victims was told the other had been killed because she resisted the rapists.

Three of the gang, who were born in Pakistan, had claimed "cultural differences" were to blame for their actions.

Then your culture must be really fucked up.

Posted by: rainier at April 22, 2004 at 03:05 PM

I don't know... maybe there might be something to be said for respecting their original cultural values and laws.

Surely Islamic Law would be able to do a little better than simply 70 years of public-sponsored and pointless continued existence.

I say if the punishment under that system would have been beheading or impalement or something equivalent, then we owe it to them to see to it that their cultural origins are honoured to the letter.

As a member of Australia's Swedish community, I think I should be able to rape and pillage to my heart's content. It borders on genocide that I am not allowed to.

And now Mark 'Two Stroke' Latham is attacking the multicultural industry.

Australia is taking a few more steps along the long railway line that leads to an oppressive regime.

Posted by: Mike Hunt at April 22, 2004 at 03:27 PM

Can someone please advise why the names of these four cretins have been withheld?

The public has a right to know exactly who they are, even if they are banged up for years to come.

Rot in your cages rapist scum, who cares where you came from.

Posted by: Rob at April 22, 2004 at 03:53 PM

I'm sure the cultural gulf aren't so big that some Australia fellow won't bugger them silly.

Bastards.

Posted by: Andrew at April 22, 2004 at 03:57 PM

Jim,

From news.com.au

"None of the rapists can be identified by more than initials because two were minors at the time of the attack."

Identifying the two non-minors would probably i.d. the minors, I assume.

I'm pretty shore every state and territory in Oz forbids identifying defendents or convicted crooks under 18. Not sure why.

Posted by: BH at April 22, 2004 at 04:38 PM

To paraphrase Mark Steyn:

Okay, so your culture says you can rape, assault, and threaten with death girls and women (Even when they are officially witness for the state.). That's fine-

-But you have to accept that in OUR culture, it is OUR tradition to hang people who rape, assualt, and threaten with death girls and women. So which one of you four is going to votunteer to go to the gallows first?

(And if you try to keep us from hanging you for committing such acts, then you are "culturally oppressing" us.).

How much you wanna bet they end up jailhouse sissies? They had better get right up next to the biggest and meanest chain gang and outback hardened cons they can, 'cause they just don't want to be anybody's bitches.

Posted by: Fat Cracker at April 22, 2004 at 05:08 PM

what do you need names for. it's not like you'll be able to pronounce any of them.

Posted by: anon at April 22, 2004 at 05:15 PM

It not the culture per se but more the religion.

Posted by: Dog at April 22, 2004 at 05:44 PM

They're not identified so granmas like me don't form an al getem brigade and start sharpening up the kitchen knives.

Posted by: kwol at April 22, 2004 at 05:59 PM

Cultural? Ill give these creeps 'cultural' should they happen to fall within my small but potent circle of influence

Posted by: cugel at April 22, 2004 at 06:34 PM

So their lawyer was permitted to slander an entire culture, who predominantly don't rape women, in order to get them a lesser sentence?

Can the lawyer be named?

Posted by: TJW at April 22, 2004 at 06:56 PM

70 years amongst the four? That's not good enough, that works out to about 17.5 years per man for aggravated rape and assault. I hope they got the cat with hard labor too.

Posted by: Helen at April 22, 2004 at 07:04 PM

It looks like at least 3 of the brothers represented themselves. A public defender was named (Andrew Haesler) that apparently defended the 4th brother. The remarks regarding cultural differences were made by the brothers' father: Their father, a practising doctor, told the court they should be pardoned because they "did not know the culture of this country".

Since the matter came up previously, I have been looking at the legal aspects of revocation of citizenship. Citizenship is granted subject to checks, declarations etc. of good character. If any person has lied about their good character in order to gain citizenship, that citizenship is revokable. Let's get revocing!

PS, Thanks to Tim, we have the wonderful "Ask an Imam" site. Let's ask the Imam what's the Islamic punishment.

Posted by: Sue at April 22, 2004 at 07:37 PM

A cultural misunderstanding?

I wasn't aware that in Pakistan it was legal to pack-rape women.

Presumably the Brizzie Bulldogs are packing the lube and booking tickets as we speak.

With regards witholding the villains names, the idea I'm sure is that kids should not be punished with notoriety throughout their life for minor offences they may have committed in their foolish youth.

Kidnapping and holding a knife to terrified girls and raping them in a gang is not mere youthful folly.

For serious crimes this business of hiding the identity of the villains is beyond a joke.

Their actions (rape and threats of murder) are adult actions and they should have to face all of the consequences.

I like a suggestion I saw a while ago.

we pay Thailand $10,000 per man and get them put in a Thai jail to serve their sentence.

Thailand gets to pocket about $8000 per prisoner and Aust both saves a fortune in prison costs and gives the prisoners a punishment they can really fear.

Everyone wins.

I agree with the "cultural differences" defence. Paki's are unsuitable to immigrate anywhere except from one muslim shithole to another.

Posted by: Arty at April 22, 2004 at 10:57 PM

CT echoes a statement of Sir Charles Napier, the conqueror of Sind, that I've always enjoyed.

A Brahmin objected to the British suppressing the practice of suttee, the ritual burning of widows, on the grounds that it was the custom to do so. Napier replied that in his country they, too, had a custom: they hanged men who burned women. "Let each of us act according to our custom."

Posted by: Alex Bensky at April 22, 2004 at 10:57 PM

That's exactly what you'd expect of a degenerate, misgoynistic, criminal culture obsessed with death, and totally obsessed with a profoundly perverted view of sexual morality! Jail the so-called parents as well!
There's been an Islamic crime-wave in South-Western Sydney since 1995! I think Punchbowl must have more criminals per capita than any suburb in any developed nation on Earth!!!

Posted by: Brian. at April 22, 2004 at 11:03 PM

PS, Thanks to Tim, we have the wonderful "Ask an Imam" site. Let's ask the Imam what's the Islamic punishment.

Ask the Imam, and you will find that non-muslims cannot give evidence against a muslim in islamic shariah courts.

Also, the evidence of ONE muslim woman is of no value, it takes at least TWO muslim women to be witnesses
So, as long as muslims rape lone women (or groups of jewish, christian or pagan women) they cannot be convicted in a muslim court.

However, if the woman is unmarried, and gets pregnant, that is proof that she has committed adultery, and she is liable to be stoned for such a crime.

Brizzie Bulldogs?

And who might they be?

Posted by: CCD at April 22, 2004 at 11:12 PM

While their names have been withheld, I remember the Sydney Morning Herald publishing their initials. Not surprisingly, the initial M seemed a little over-represented.

Do you actually *do* your time in Oz, or is it like the U.S. where you're out in 1/4 to 1/2 the time if you stay out of trouble?

cultural differences amounting to anyone who is a non muslim is cattle to be used as we see fit, for the great and powerful OZ do not recognize them as human, praises be for the free poon tang

"Brizzie Bulldogs"?

Try Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. (The comment is either not as funny as it sounds - or funnier than it sounds - as the rapists were from the Canterbury-Bankstown area... maybe it's somethingin the water?)
I wouln't let my teenager (or any young woman) walk alone in Bankstown or surrounds after dark - I'd even think twice about walking there in the daylight!

Being an immigrant to Australia, I am SICK AND TIRED of ethnicity being used as an excuse in place for individual responsibility. It is perhaps the biggest source of fuel for any sort of negative racial stereotypes and those pathetic useless sad excuse for human beings aren't fit to represent their own ethnicity.

Australia is a multicultural country - bound together by a common belief. I came to this country because I share the same beliefs as those here. I am an Asian-Australian, and I am proud of my Asian heritage.

I makes my blood boil when race is used as a excuse for these boy's inability to control their own dicks, and their parent's failure to discipline them. It is a dangerous game played to the detriment of this countries multicultural community. I believe we should deport them for they are not fit enough to be part of this community - yes - the many good immigrants of this country should shoulder the responsibility of leading the charge to deporting the bad immigrants. Australia is MY country and it is my duty to defend it.

I would like to see the good muslims of this country taking the lead to condemn these useless pieces of shit and cut off their dicks or something...

Posted by: J Wang at April 23, 2004 at 04:00 PM

Fat Cracker - sorry to tell you that you are probably wrong on this

They will be protected in prison by the Lebenese Muslims already there - and there are lots of them.

These rapists originally went into a juvenile facility where they were greeted with cheers and treated like heroes by their brave fellow-Muslims.

How do I know this? I live in Sydney and work in the legal system.

Posted by: dee at April 23, 2004 at 09:12 PM

Here's a thought. A mob can take these four scumbags into the street and beat them to death, set their bodies on fire, cut them up in pieces, drag the parts around town then hang them from a bridge. Now that is 7th century justice for you. That is what Muslim culture is based on, right? It would be culturally sensitive to provide the methods of punishment from their own culture to those who claim victimhood based on it.

Harry - maybe we all should "outsource" our criminals to iraq? ("outsourcing" is a another election issue here, in US)
instead of spending locally tens of thousands $ on prisoners upkeep, iraqis would do it for hundreds. suddenly, there are a lot of empty prisons around baghdad, guarding them will keep iraqis employed & earning decent wages and above all american & australian taxpayers will save billions.
