associating partners with Allah. Shirk can also encompase any object that a person may hold in regard higher than Allah. It is the most severe of sins and will not be forgiven.

Many of the ayat of the Qur'an were demonstrated in our life in a very spectacular way, crystal clear for all to see. Serious question here; has there been any other major world religion so relentlessly based on active hate? I don't mean the whole "ours is the only true way, O Lord smite my enemies" approach which is a time-honoured if not necessarily very wise prayer, but a religion wherein the Lord expressly tells you to go out and do all that smiting yourself. Really, he approves! It's religion AND fun! I don't think even the cranky Old Testament God was quite that...collectively aggressive. It seems like it was more about being left alone and being able to hit back at the other guy when he attacked you.

I can think of one cult whose bloodthirstiness would put most of the Mullahs to shame; the cult of Kali. But that's long dead, and it never quite made it to world religion status. More of a niche market.

I don't think there's a unique flavor to Islam itself that produces this. Any religion (hell, even any "non-religion") can and has been used to justify acts of violence.

This type of violence was reformed out of Christianity 500 years ago. Now it's Islam's turn. They must reform or face the consequences.
