A Question (Well, Several Actually)

Are men and women different? I mean, really fundamentally different? If so, does that form a basis for defining marriage to be something that unites these two inherently different aspects of humankind in a way that is fundamentally different than uniting two men or two women?

Well, we aren't that different. We can interbreed, and communication is possible between male and female with the help of translating devices (remote controls, credit cards, etc.).

Short answer to all three of your questions:

Yes.

Only in the sense that they can, with a little luck and/or a lot of medical intervention, breed.

Yes, the genders are fundamentally different:

- When was the last time you met a man who had more than three pairs of shoes, would buy new underwear without being forced at gunpoint, or cared how the toilet paper was hung on the spindle?
- When was the last time you met a woman who knew the function of the differential (in a car, not in mathematics), would ignore a ringing phone during sex, or could explain why it's stupid to call a draw play on third down and seventeen?

'Nuff said.

I have 2 pair of shoes to alternate for work, steel-toed and insulated boots, and a pair of what Heinlein called "hurting" shoes for dressup. I not only buy new underwear, but throw out the old when the holes get big enough for something to get into. I prefer feed-forward, but in our house the roll sits on the counter.

It's been years since I was aware of a woman understanding what a differential was for, but my wee wifey advises shutting off the ringer simply so we won't be disturbed, and too damn many cheesehead women understand football. Hell, my wee wifey was mad about that last fourth down play.

The differential distributes the power from the transmission to the wheels and allows them to turn at different speeds. (See, both women AND men can use Google).

My boyfriend has more clothes than I do, including two three shades-different colors of the same pair of pants. Regardless, I'm pretty sure he's straight! ;0)

And I don't know much about football, but I know a bit about boxing! ;0)

That said- women and men are a different species, I just couldn't help but poke a little fun at FWP's comment!
