Friday's Blast From the Past

I like the housemartins, especially Happy Hour.

It's happy hour again
I think I might be happy if I wasn't out with them
And they're happy it's a lovely place to be
Happy that the fire is real the barman is a she
Where the haircuts smile
And the meaning of style
Is a night out with the boss
Where you win or you lose
And its them who choose
And if you don't win then you've lost

What a good place to be
Don't believe her
'Cause they speak a different language
And it's never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}
Don't believe her oh no
'Cause its never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}

oh woah woah

It's another night out with the boss
Following in footsteps overgrown with moss
And he tells me that women grow on trees
And if you catch them right they will land upon their knees

Where they open all their wallets
And they close all their minds
And they love to buy you all a drink
And then we ask all the questions
And you take all your clothes off
And go back to the kitchen sink

What a good place to be
Don't believe her
'Cause they speak a different language
And it's never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}
Don't believe her oh no
'Cause its never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}

woah woah woah woah ho

What a good place to be
Don't believe her
'Cause they speak a different language
And it's never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}
Don't believe her oh no
'Cause its never really happened to me
{It's happy hour again}
Don't believe her
Don't believe her
Doooooooon't believe her

Its happy hour again, and again, and again
Its happy hour again, and again, and again
Its happy hour again, and again, and again

Its happy hour again

OMG!!

Having been in a cover band that played that song about a million times, I should hate it. However, it has remained as one of my favorites along with Robyn Hitchcock's Salome.

Congrats on the new site!!

Wow, I'd forgotten the Housemartins existed. Then I moved, and unearthed a couple of crates of cassette tapes I'd made. Back in the eighties the British music papers used to sometimes come with vinyl 7" records that had a dozen songs crammed onto them somehow. (I used to go to the way-cool indie record store to buy the mags. Now I think the only one left is the NME, and they suck now.) I'm not sure if I actually have any Housemartins songs, but I do have something by the Woodentops, and I have a couple of Mighty Lemon Drops LPs, and... ah, memory lane. (I also found out that none of the stores here that still sell vinyl wanted my 70s/80s record collection. "There are still too many records from that time period" is the excuse. All they want is stuff in mint condition, or collector's items. So I had to pack all three hundred or so albums into storage. Guess I'm stuck with them. Oh well. Anyone want a used Waterboys LP? It's got "Trumpets" and "I Will Not Follow.")

I just went to look at my friends' (whom I am staying with) collection of cds. They've got a lot of eighties stuff, but surprisingly no Housemartins.
