A Warning
I hate April Fool’s Day. I think it is totally pointless and annoying. No, this is not an April Fool’s joke. I won’t be turning my blog into some sort of Pretend Moonbat Liberal blog running Che Guevara adoration pictures, nor will I be going around to other sites doing god knows what because I’ve bought into the great waste of time and nerves known as April Fool’s Day. Just for the record, I don’t like practical jokes or surprise parties or anything like that either. “Fun” activities like that aren’t fun, they’re hostility disguised as fun. They’re all about controlling the object of the “fun” — “Let’s make Andrea jump and shriek! It’ll be funny!” No it won’t. My foot up the joker’s ass — now that will be funny.
No this is not a fucking April Fool’s Day joke.

Of course it’s not. If it were you’d probably be writing something along the lines of “now let’s be nice to each other” or similar.

My idea of a good prank is one that makes the target laugh. It’s easy to make everyone else laugh at someone’s expense. It’s much harder to make everyone laugh, including the target.

You’re preaching to the choir. I f**cking HATE April Fool’s Day. So much so that my wife (a BIG fan of this day) has agreed not to even try to pull anything. It was annoying enough that I had to make an extra click to get to the real Fark site. Yes, I’m that lazy. Why do you ask?

Heh, I got the picture in the next entry from Fark.

I happened to wander over to Janis Ian’s site today, and she had the whole thing redone as though she was the next Britney Spears - including a tour of all the world’s major cities in alphabetical order. That was funny. When I recoded the mu.nu web forum to treat English as a right-to-left language like Hebrew, that was funny.
A good practical joke is funny for all the participants. Most of them, as you say, are just an excuse for hostility.
