In order to drive heretics back into the Democratic Party fold, Matthew Yglesias, Professional Writer™, has dropped this load of crap into Blogostan like a ten-ton fertilizer bomb. Everyone has fisked it; why not me? Okay, I'll begin:
Take a deep breath. Look in the mirror. Take another deep breath. Look at some photos of your liberal friends and family.
Oh go fuck yourself, Oprah.
I guess I don't have the patience to deal with this sort of thing after all.
(Via Michael J. Totten. Best smaquedown, though, comes from Armed Liberal -- though mary of Exit Zero rocks the house in Yglesias's comment section.)
Posted by Andrea Harris at November 3, 2003 11:53 PMPretty goddamned condescending, that. It assumes that I never, ever examine my thinking and motivation. Truth is, I constantly do. I also constantly consider the thinking of others, and change mine if I think I'm wrong.
But noooooo...only a liberal can think. Conservatives are just feed-at-the-RNC-trough, unthinking, stupid herd animals. Devious, acquisitive herd animals, granted. But it's all instinct. Oh, and Bush is an idiot.
Someone forgot to consider the consequences of his actions, all right. It just wasn't me. If you want to get people to ignore you, one surefire technique is to maintain that you have a conscience and they don't.
Oh, he's a good writer. It's the material that reeks.
Posted by: David Perron at November 4, 2003 at 09:53 AMHeretics is right. Liberals used to be the heretics, the nonconformists. Now they’ve been redefined as ‘liberal hawks’ or neo-cons.
The tranzis who are currently running the Democratic party aren’t liberals, they’re just a herd of UN-worshipping conformist leftists.
I said that in Yglesias’s comments – that should go over like a lead balloon. This whole thing is just another reason why old labels like liberal and conservative don’t make sense any more.
- Thanks for the mention!
Posted by: mary at November 4, 2003 at 12:09 PMNo need to look at photos of "my liberal friends and family." They pester me so endlessly I don't need to go looking for them--they'll find me first.
Posted by: ilyka at November 4, 2003 at 04:47 PMDid anyone else get flashbacks of Al Franken's old SNL routine, with the smarmy shrink who looks in the mirror and tells himself he's really not a loser, ". . . and doggonit, people like me !" What an ass.
Posted by: Joe Lemyre at November 4, 2003 at 10:36 PMAmen to that, David Perron. How dare Yglesias and the rest of his moonbat crew assume that I haven't formed the viewpoints I have through introspection, study and debate? It's this smug condescension that I find most nauseating in the Left. It has an upside, though. I read. A lot. I search down references and links. I memorise statistics and where I found them. I make the best effort I can to inform myself to the point where my arguments are as watertight as possible. The upshot of this is that when I encounter such an intellectually lazy Lefty, I can humiliatingly crush him. It's fun.

Can you also hear the wailing and lamentations of their women?
Posted by: Parker at November 5, 2003 at 02:55 PMWhile Armed Liberal did an excellent job, I think "Oh go fuck yourself Oprah" is a fine, fine insult. And you had to do a lot less work than AL ;-)
