Aldahlia reads War and Peace. I've been tring to read it too, in my sort of half-hearted campaign to read all the Dead White Male-penned classics. But I am afraid I have come to the same conclusions she has: the Borodins et al are as dumb and dull as rocks.
Posted by Andrea Harris at August 24, 2003 04:22 PMThat was why I stopped reading the Brothers Karamazov about a third of the way through - complete lack of sympathy for most of the characters.
They may be wonderfully "developed", but that just doesn't keep me going through a novel of that length and weight, without, you know, some reaction to their troubles other than "deserves it, the bastard" or "what did you EXPECT?", etc.
