What I need

I need a goddamn vacation. No, not an extra day off that is just long enough for me to catch up on all the sleep I miss during the work week. I mean a real, live, at least two-week-long vaycay. What would I do? Well, if I had all this free time (and if I had at least a couple hunnert bucks and was caught up on my bills -- these are the current obstacles to my fantasy getaway, by the way), I would drive up the Atlantic coast and maybe stop at a couple of beach towns. I'd drive all the way to Savannah, which is a cute little town, or it was the last time I was there in 1981. Then I'd drive up to Clemson, South Carolina and visit my aunt and uncle, who are getting on in years, and see my cousins that I haven't seen since the Seventies.

Or maybe not. Maybe I'd just drive up to North Florida and explore all the little towns. I dunno. I do know I would really like to see some parts of the country I have never been to, like the Midwest. Oh well. Blah blah blah. Must finish novel and shop out to publishers. Must finish degree and get "real" job again. Must break free of pall of apathetic discontent.

14 July, I hit the road, though I probably won't get far enough south to brush against your doorsill, especially since I'm supposed to visit Minneapolis, Detroit and Philadelphia during the period in question.

Tallahassee's nice right now, though it will soon be too hot for too many months.

I could use one of those too. We could start a fund to go dancing and blogging in Bali. If we wait a month or two we could con some Aus/NZ bloggers into joining us. ;)

Well, if you make it by Jax drinks are on me. If you make it to Savannah try the Eliza Thompson House. I'm sure Acidman would spring for it.

I know exactly what you mean...so I quit. Friday will be my last day of gainful employment. I plan to do NOTHING, go NOWHERE for about a month...just sleep in, take naps, read, tend the blog and garden.

I need some serious downtime without any plans whatsoever. Then we'll see...prolly head to central Mexico for a month.

Well, Andrea, if you head out on vacation wherever, if you're in my neighborhood you're always welcome to crash in my living room (or, after I move to a place with a spare bedroom, you can crash there). I have a "you're family when you're here" rule, which is to say I point to the bed, I point to the bathroom, I point to the frig, I point to the computer (so you know where all the important things are), I give you a key to the door and say "Make yourself at home." Although if you came to town I'd have to take you to my fav NYC restaurant, and a couple of live music dives... At least you know that if you're in driving distance of me, you have a free place to stay :D.

Well, I'm bummed. My vacation is now off. We were supposed to leave next Friday, and my brother's work has been stringing him along for weeks over approving his request. They just said no.

I'm not happy right now.

All I can do is to break down into poignant sobs and dream of the day, some years hence, when I may possibly have a week or two free.
