Communication breakdown

Argh. Frustrated with trying to open Tim Blair's site, I sent him this email:

How about: timblair.spleenville.com? I can set it up in five minutes. Think about it -- a nice new NON-BLOGSPOT blog running Movable Type or some other easy-to-use software that won't crash or disappear your archives.

I am sending this because I have had it with trying to load your site today. If I can save just one blogger from Blogspot.... ;)

So how about it?

Andrea Harris

And I mean it too. Consider it my service to the snarky-Aussie1-dependent segment of the Blogosphere2. But there seems to be something wrong with his email -- I could swear all it did was bounce my email back -- so I'm posting it here in case he or someone happens to surf by my site.

1. That's for whoever keeps searching through my site for "aussie" references.
2. Term invented by Bill Quick. I disavow all responsibility.

I count myself as personally rescuing two bloggers from Blogspot -- Ben Kepple, whose MT site I'm setting up this week, and a guy I work with who started a Blogspot blog but who I rescued just in time. He'll be running off of deanesmay.com within a few days. We're even hoping to get Lilac Rose to help with his design!

Yes, please. I've had to drop Tim from my daily rotation because Blogspot is just too farked up to deal with. And that hurts.

I swear to the gods, a domain can be had for as little as $10/year and hosting for $6/month. It ain't rocket science, people.

I made offers to probably half-a-dozen blogspotters over my days to move them off for free, but was turned aside each time. Some sort of self-sufficiency thing. Or maybe my terms of service were a bit onerous (but liberating once you get past the puritanical notions of these times).

No, probably the self-sufficiency stuff.

We've rescued an even 10 people off of Blogger or some even less reliable platforms, but to set Mr. Blair free would overshadow even that...

I have offered to pay for the hosting and domains of some of my favorites who are on blogspot (cough*Treacher*cough) but I think some of these people just like punishment.

I've rescued two folks from the clutches of BlogSpot and looking to add three or four more... Adopt-A-Blogger today!

Definitely. Hey, Tim, I replied to you at your Yahoo address instead of in comments. The email will come from my Earthlink address.

Yah. Blogger says they're installing a new version. Bah. The only reason I'm waiting is to see what happens with TypePad.
