"Expect this to show up in the 2-cds-for-$3.99 bargain bin within a week of its release."

Well, if "within a week" implies "immediately," I agree.

Humm, I'd really like Yusuf (or 'Cat-sick' as he's not very affectionately known in our house) to channel the Prophet and explain what Allah sez about jerking off in public lavatories, drug use, fornicating with Gwyneth Paltrow or women not being properly submissive to their lords and masters.

And given that yhis piece of shit endorsed the fatwa against Salman Rushdie, what respectable artist would consent to share a bill with him.

No matter how worthy the cause, Yusuf is staying out of my CD collection.

I have no beef in theory with an album whose proceeds go to humanitarian efforts; it's a long, if misguided tradition in the pop world. But you notice who isn't contributing their work? Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz, the Beastie Boys, John Mellencamp, Coldplay . . . all the ones who now have a chance to do something besides posturing and kvetching.

Jeez -- perhaps we can have someone do an album to benefit child victims of the Hussein regime (certainly we could find someone to do a cover of "Jailhouse Rock").

~sigh~ I guess I should feel old. I only recognize four names on the list and I had to think about Yusuf Islam for a minute.

BTW, to OtherPundit - Shortly after Sept. 11 there was a piece in the Independent in which Cat made a fairly convincing attempt to wiggle out of some of his earlier statements: I was a new convert to Islam... I was used... yadda yadda... Anyway, I used to like his songs and I try not to mix music and politics.

I won't be buying this CD but it's not because of politics. I'm just not all that interested in the music.

I'm with Lynn S here. Who the hell is Spiritualized? And, I see my old buddy Cat Litter has no new material.

Don't feel bad, guys -- I don't know half of those people either. David Bowie? Who he? Surely the Bowie I knew would not sing a song called "Everyone Says Hi." (The hell??) Must be a clone.
