Handout on Plagiarism

Here's a useful thing: a simple, straightforward, guide to what Plagiarism is, and how one can avoid it. This is put out by the University of Virginia, which notes that you can be expelled for committing plagiarism. (Via Chris lawrence.) And here is the pertinent page on my university's "Golden Rule" (student rights and responsibilites) handbook site (it's under "Academic Dishonesty/Cheating").

I wonder if the not using quotation marks thing is ok when you're using the HTML blockquote tag to define it as a quote? I'm sure to always do that. I wouldn't dream of plagarizing anyone--I like to think I have more than enough original thought in my head to post at least once every couple of days without ripping someone off--so that particular requirement gives me pause.

Hrm. :)

As long as it is obvious that you are quoting, I don't think it's a problem. But I just want to add here that there is a type of plagiarism widely practiced in the blogosphere, which really should stop.
"Downloading or copying pictures, photographs, or diagrams without acknowledging your sources."

The above quote is from this site.

I don't know what you mean. [IRAQI INFORMATION MINISTER VOICE] I took all those photographs myself. [/IRAQI INFORMATION MINISTER VOICE]
