Out of the mouths of babes, dept.

Things have gotten really weird when Kid Rock says something sensible:

Kid Rock on musicians pontificating about war in Iraq: "Why is everybody trying to stop the war? George Bush ain't been saying, 'You all, make shitty records.' Politicians and music don't mix. It's like whisky and wine. [Musicians] ought to stay out of it."

Maybe that friend of mine who thinks Kid Rock's stoopid white-boy shtick is just an act is right.

Wow, somebody in Hollywood said something that makes sense! :)

Short, sweet and directly to the point. This war stuff is just full of surprises! People I used to think were bright and thoughtful, I now think are ignorant trash, and people I used to think were ignorant trash, I now think are--if not bright or thoughtful--astute observers of reality.
Interesting...

Next up: Limp Bizkit launches a public statement on the obstructionist tactics of France and the ineffectiveness of the U.N.

Figures. Musicians that I like are idiots; those that I loathe turn out to be not entirely brainless.

Wow, that really makes sense! That's what I'll tell the butcher down at the grocery store, "Hey, George Bush doesn't tell you how to cut meat! So don't complain that he may be starting a war just 'cause you don't want one." Brilliant. It's the perfect response to citizens criticizing any government official's decision they don't agree with (and you do agree with).

Well, Horatio, Andrea doesn't tell you how to be a pompous ass...

Posted by: Kevin McGehee at February 24, 2003 at 02:11 PM

Ooh, very classy, Horatio.

It depends on the butcher. If he's an arrogant, hypocritical fucknozzle who thinks his views are more important than those of anyone else - then that would certainly be a fitting thing to say to him.

On the other hand, if he's a reasonable human being who appears to be interested in intelligent discourse instead of spouting idiotic phrases like, "No blood for oil," and "War never solves anything," then such a statement will probably not be necessary.

Horatio:

What is it w/ the anti-war crowd, that defines criticism as somehow equivalent to muzzling. Does the butcher, or the inane poster on a web-site, or the veterinarian, have the right to an opinion on going to war, the right tax rate (or even taxation method), or whether abortion should be legal?

Get this straight: The answer is YES.

Does the rock star, movie star, sportstar, or inane poster on a web-site have any reason for their opinion to be valued more highly, based on their STARDOM?

The answer should be NO.

The really funny thing is that the likes of Horatio will inevitably cite the one or two generals who oppose war as somehow proof that their position is correct, but when they are confronted w/ lots of generals OPPOSING their position (on things like the nuclear freeze, or not going into Kosovo), their answer is like that of the bit about the butcher, i.e., who the f*** are they to have an opinion that should be listened to?

Trapped for days in a hotel room waiting out the recent blizzard, I watched Kid Rock's episode of MTV's Driven. I still don't like his music, but it seemed that from a young age he had a lot of dedication and quite a few smarts (at least as far as breaking into the music biz goes). Not a rocket scientist, but I came away with a little more respect for him.

Hey, horatio, as soon as your local butcher gets an article dedicated to his views on Iraq in the national press just because he's the butcher and that's seen as a reason why we should care what he thinks about Iraq, you'll be comparing apples and apples...

Posted by: Marm at February 24, 2003 at 05:36 PM

I don't much care for Kid Rock's music, but he's one of the few celebrities in this country that I have observed that does not routinely say/do something outstandingly stupid.

This has been a troll. Had this been an actual, thoughtful comment, the commentor would have supplied something other than this steaming heap of text. This concludes this troll of Spleenville.com.

oopss...heh heh heh

I think he is a talentless dolt but he has something sensible. Course he could be trying to rescue his dying career but being different from the rest of the pack...but no that would be too cynical!

Sorry, Andrea. I figured if I'm going to troll you, then subterfuge would be useless. No, actually I was posting that as something you could use as an auto-disclaimer for obvious trolls. Such as Horatio.

I guess it's unkind to assume he's a troll. But it's less kind than the only alternative I can think of, to wit: impervious to information.

I've definitely assumed he was a troll. Why else would he keep coming back for more? But I think I've finally gotten rid of him.
