What Would Sheryl Do?

Oh, man -- this is going to be hilarious.

Get ready for antiwar protests at tomorrow night's Grammy Awards ceremony.

Despite a report that CBS executives had considered blocking politically outspoken rockers, the network said last night it would not pull the plug on anyone protesting a war against Iraq.

I might even watch it. Me, a bottle of (Aussie, Israeli, or California) wine, and the spectacle of big-headed rock stars making utter fools of themselves on national tv.

Sheryl's gonna be there!

Musician Sheryl Crow, who made headlines when she wore a "War Is Not the Answer" T-shirt at the American Music Awards in January, plans to hand out 300 "No War" buttons tomorrow.

Better make that a fifth of Jack Daniels. Or two.

Hey, I've got an idea! Who wants to get together and have a Grammy Night Blogbash? It's more fun to drink and mock in company.

Hey, the Spaniards and Italians make some pretty good wines, too. To which add American, British, Australian or Czech beer in place of our "friends" Germany and Belgium.

For the record, I'm glad CBS won't pull the plug even if things get out of hand, because the last I want is these idiots playing martyrs to "censorship." I want all their blather to put on permanent display to be slapped back in their faces when the post-Saddam party on the streets of Baghdad makes the liberation of Kabul look like a funeral.

I'm glad they won't pull the plug either. I mean, I love free speech, I love my free speech to laugh even more. Most of all, CBS would have ruined our entertainment. I hate awards shows, but I have to tune into this one.

I understand Bulgaria is making some nice wines these days as well.

I fully agree with the Spanish and Italian wine comment, furthermore, the Hungarians and Chileans have some decent selections as well.

Other than that, this Grammy Night Blogbash sounds like the kind of project in which I'd like to be involved... ;-)

Paul,

I'd reserve judgment on Chile until we see how they vote on the next UNSC resolution. One of the reasons Bush had Aznar in Crawford was to see that Spain put the thumb-screws to them and Mexico in making sure they go along, which is not at all certain.

David,

Valid point, I keep on forgetting that Chile and Mexico are on the UNSC. I really wonder if they're that willing to shoot themselves in the foot, though.

I wonder if Sheryl will give precise instructions on how to have no enemies? Some of the things our enemies hate are the entertainment products put on by people like her.

It's no wonder many countries are willing to cross the US on matters we deem inportant. In the past we rarely did much to retaliate when they did something like that. In the future we should make certain countries that so cross us pay a price, diplomatic and sometimes economic, when they do so. By the same token countries that act as our friends should get more favorable treatment. When others know there is a price to be paid for crossing us they will do it much less often.
