Ooh, the big, fierce peace protestors are going to throw a huge hissy fit in New York City this Saturday. Or so they claim. For example, Indymedia is calling for, among other things, something called a "mass die-in." You know, in these days I'd be more careful flinging around phrases like "die" if I were these folks, especially if the term "mass" was used in the same sentence.
Posted by Andrea Harris at February 13, 2003 11:44 PMI find myself wondering, quite deeply, what a die-in is, and if it's not what I don't hope it isn't. (To avoid offending ANYONE, I have deliberately made that sentence indecipherable, so you can't tell if I actually hope it isn't what it does not quite appear to be or not.)
Posted by: Aaron at February 14, 2003 at 10:23 AMI actually think they just mean one of those things where a bunch of protestors lie on the ground in front of some place they want to block traffic to, and refuse to move. You know, kind of like the way a toddler throws himself on the ground when he doesn't get something he wants.
Posted by: Andrea Harris at February 14, 2003 at 11:38 AMGoing to the train station on 23rd & 6th Ave. yesterday, a woman, while screaming out a litany of anti-war cliches, was trying to hand out flyers for the demonstration on Sat. From dozens & dozens of people streaming in not one person, NOT A SINGLE ONE, took a flyer. There were a few "shut the f**k up!!" voiced in response but no takers. I was so proud...

[sigh] Promises. Always empty promises.
