Ah, back to the white. And now I have lovely graphical drop-caps instead of line-height dependant ones. I'm still tweaking.
Posted by Andrea Harris at February 10, 2003 12:39 AMHey, you should call this "the UPS blog."
Because that would be cool.
Posted by: Steve H. at February 10, 2003 at 12:52 AMWell, I for one appreciate the change. That green kind of cracked the back of my eye sockets.
Posted by: Ken Summers at February 10, 2003 at 09:41 AMthe fadey links freak me out, but the drop caps are very fancy. it's been answered - you are the man.
Posted by: chris at February 10, 2003 at 10:04 AMIt's a plugin for MT -- you can get it here. You can set it up to use the text in your entries, which is the way I had it before -- but that means you'll have to set your line-height property at something like 200% in order to prevent the drop-capped letter from being cut off at the bottom, and there are other problems having to do with text formatting. So I decided to go the slightly more difficult route and make the letter gifs. (If you decide to do this just make letter gifs in Paint Shop Pro or something, save them as "a.gif," "b.gif," and so on. That was the only bitch, but it took me maybe twenty minutes to do it. I made them transparent using PSP's gif optimizer wizard. Why did I start using PSP? Because I can't find my copy of Photoshop. It's Around Here Somewhere... But I am thinking of saving up the dough to buy the newer version anyway. At the computer store at the university I can get the educational version for about $300, give or take a few dollars.)
Posted by: Andrea Harris at February 10, 2003 at 01:00 PMhey, i love JASC PSP. i still use 6, like a loser who's too cheap to upgrade, but it seems like everytime i use it i catch something new in it.
then again, i'm not doing design for a living ;)
and that "have a regular blog with MT and everything" is just not for me. :D
Posted by: chris at February 10, 2003 at 02:51 PMI just hate having to depend on someone else's maintenance, like Blogspot or the other free journal sites. Sure, on the one hand, they are worry free (and, well, free); on the other hand, you don't get the control. And I like to have controllll.....
Posted by: Andrea Harris at February 10, 2003 at 03:19 PMI still use PSP too. As for the drop caps, you lost me at 'line-height property" [g]
If I were to attmept it, I'm sure the outcome would be a panicked email to Rachel to fix what I blew up!
I love making graphics and creating website designs, I just suck at the technical stuff. And every year, it all gets more and more technical. I need to try and catch up one of these days!
