Unilateral or Universal?

Well, folks, looks like the United States is all alone in the world -- as long as you don't pay attention to all those other countries behind the curtain.

Andrea,

Does this list include every country on the planet? Or at least every country in the region? Does every nation swear fealty and commitment to the exact same goal as our own?

No?

Then it's unilateralism.

I didn't pose it as "Does it include France? Does it include Germany?" because I predict that:

A. The French will try to crawl back in w/ us; and
B. The Germans might well try the same.

And if they do so, and the Russians and Chinese abstain, the Left will still scream "Unilateral Bushista War!"

Shoot, I'll go one better. If the UNSC actually passes a new resolution specifically authorizing the use of force, the Left will claim that the US simply browbeat all the Council members into allowing it to have its way, and the war is STILL illegal, unilateral, what-have-you.

Facts don't matter. Only feelings matter.

Earth vs. Iraq: it's unilateral! (I tried to come up with some lyrics to the tune of "You're So Irresistable" -- something along the lines of "You're So Unilateral" -- but I can't write lyrics.)

Those countries are from behind the ex curtain. I would like to think that gives them a fresh appreciation both for freedom and tyranny.

Fred,

Yes, it shows that they bought the propaganda.

I kid you not, I had professors who went to Poland soon after the Wall came down. These professors were appalled that their counterparts in Poland were convinced that the US, and Ronald Reagan in particular, had been instrumental in ending (and winning) the Cold War.

These profs PROUDLY commented on how, while they were there, they had tried to disabuse every counterpart they met of their false understanding, and tried to convey the importance in which Gorbachev was held in the West, and how he was truly credited with ending the Cold War.

So, believe you me, this ilk will give NO credence to the perceptions of a Vaclav Havel, but will dismiss it as either grasping for Western aid, or a false understanding of how the world works.....

Never one to pass up a lyric-writing challenge, I gave it a shot with the chorus:

yes, we’re unilateral
don’t need collateral
we’re inescapable
let the euros cry
more military might
whether you’re left or right
we are so powerful
Unilateral we fly
