The woods are calling me, people. Gotta go out for a bit. Later.

Is this swamp-like...ie, is this a cypress tree place?
Posted by: Jane at February 4, 2003 at 11:20 PMActually, I went to Big Tree Park, which contains the USA's oldest cypress tree. It's just up the road from where I live. It's pretty swampy around here -- lots of lakes and cypress trees -- and the park has a wooden walkway that is elevated above the ground to walk on -- but it's mingled with a sandhill environment, which is higher (by a few feet) and drier and has lots of other kinds of trees. Believe it or not, the trees do get semi-bare here, so the woods were not quite as lush as they are in the summer. Leaves are already growing back on a lot of the trees, though -- we don't have winter here, just a real short semi-autumn. Today it was warm (in the seventies) and drizzly.
Posted by: Andrea Harris at February 4, 2003 at 11:26 PMWhoops -- forgot to add: that picture I linked to is of another park about five miles away. That also is pretty swampy, with the wooden walkways, though there are dry parts. It's a neat park, but I didn't feel like going all the way to that part of town today. I have more pictures which I plan to scan and post once I get myself in gear.
