If only we used our power for good

Oh look, Dave Barry has a blog now. Guess what inspired him?

OK, thanks to Ken Layne I now have a real blog, sort of.

I will now spend days and days trying to figure out how this works, as opposed to doing anything productive.

Now that's power. Tremble, Big Media.

Not known for his conservative views, is Dave.

Sad story: I started my career as a humorist at Tropic Magazine in 1984. There was, however, a small turd in the punchbowl. Their resident humorist was Dave Barry. They weren't exactly starving for funny stories, and after writing maybe a dozen pieces for them, I gave up writing and went into real estate.

Dave was always cordial. I doubt I registered on his threat screen, or maybe he doesn't have one.

I'll bet I read all your old humor columns back then. I used to read all the humor columns in Tropic, while avoiding all the Brave-Teenager-with-Cancer-of-the-Feet stories.

I think Dave Barry used to be a Libertarian, but since they have become the Blue-Skinned Alien Abductee Party I haven't heard much praise of those loons from him. I still love his classic description of the Democrats vs. the Republicans helping you replace a tire on your car: the Democrats would be eager to help, but they'd somehow manage to set your car on fire instead of fixing the flat; the Republicans would know exactly what to do, but they'd ignore you and drive on by because they didn't want to be late to the meeting of the Ugly Pants Club. (That's a paraphrase.)

He'd better get blogging though. He's got a long way to go to catch up to you! Why do I get the feeling Barry's blog won't be one of the more prolific...

I don't think he's an especially prolific guy. Two thousand words is a slow day for me, but as I recall, he did a thousand a week.
