Make them into a best-selling graphic novel series. (Or turn them into stories anyway; maybe that's why I rarely have nightmares.)
[Note: that link is the closest to a permalink Gaiman's blog has for now -- I had an idea to see what the archives looked like; it's the entry for January 20th.]
Posted by Andrea Harris at January 20, 2003 11:35 PMI have the complete run of Sandman, collected im trade paper backs. Cost me an arm and a leg but it was worth it.
Posted by: Ralf Goergens at January 21, 2003 at 08:32 AMI have most of them. There are two or three I still have to pick up, but they cost about US$20.00 each.
Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 21, 2003 at 09:25 AMWell, the original American editions are imported to Europe in small quantities so it's somewhat more expensive.
Posted by: Ralf Goergens at January 23, 2003 at 03:42 AMThere isn't a German edition? Then again, that might be kind of complicated to do. (The text is part of the graphics, right? I don't know anything about graphic novel publishing.) I feel your pain about import prices. I used to buy a lot of imported record albums (vinyl!), but some years ago, just as cds were coming out, there was some sort of change in the was imports were priced (probably due to the evil, corrupt music industry's shenanigans) and suddenly prices of imports shot through the roof. You can still get imported music, but the prices are astronomical.
Posted by: Andrea Harris at January 23, 2003 at 10:12 AMThere is a German version, but I hate translations.
I remember vinyl, but since I pretty much have ten thumbs I prefer the more robust CDs.
What kind of imported records did you buy? I'll have to look at the pricing models, this interests me.
Posted by: Ralf Goergens at January 24, 2003 at 12:45 AMWell I became a short story writer to stop some nasty nightmares. Now any "nasty" dreams just are research for my stories...considering I write gothic horror that is most of them.
Honest truth, want to stop nightmares, ie the wake up sweating and terrified, start writing them down. Now I try to remember ghastly dreams, so I can turn them into something for www.Shoggoth.net
Posted by: Andrew at January 26, 2003 at 12:23 AMAndrew: I wish I still had decent nightmares to write about. Okay, not really, but my nightmares have become pathetic shadows of themselves. The most recent one concerned being late for class. That was it -- the horrible dream -- I was late for class! Five minutes or so. I'm always late for class IRL, so much so you would think I wouldn't even dream about it anymore.
Ralf: a lot of indie rock and other weird music constitutes most of my vinyl import purchases. Most of this occurred during the Eighties. The Cocteau Twins, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry -- Eighties chestnuts like that. Mostly British. There was some good German Industrial, New Wave, and Goth bands too, but I mostly recorded friend's records of those groups.
