Well, here I am. I used to live in Florida. Specifically, the only state I ever lived in, save for a few childhood summers at my grandparent’s place in North Carolina, was Florida. Miami, Florida, to be precise. I always wanted to leave Miami, but my goals were somewhat unrealistic (LondonNewYorkParis Or Bust!) so instead of making sensible plans I dreamed away my youth. Finally, at the age of 36, I made it as far as… Orlando.
Central Florida was a moderately more congenial location for my corpus and gray matter than the Miami area, so I stayed for “awhile,” as they say. I started a proto blog. This post is the only place that url will be seen, by the way. Almost immediately after uploading that post, I lost interest and then lost the ID and password to that Blogspot account. (When I started back on Blogspot I had to open a brand new account.) Then I started reading other blogs. I signed up onto Live Journal and started keeping a sort of diary. (I’ve lost the password to that one too. I have another LJ account under a different ID.) Then September 11th, 2001 happened, and I suddenly had a whole lot more to say. Anyway, you can read bits and pieces of my blogging and diary-keeping past here.
When I finally got tired of increasingly slow and lumbering Blogspot I decided to get my own domain name, and what came to mind was “Spleenville.” And the rest is history! (I hope you’ve been taking notes. There will be a test.)
Then in the so-called “real” non-internet world I lost my job, couldn’t seem to get a new, permanent one, and decided I’d had it with Florida. I moved up north, and here I am in Virginia, for now. I’m looking for a job, and am going to try to not only blog more but also finish at least one of the novels percolating inside my head. We’ll see how that goes.
